Chapter III

From last time you will recall Brian and Dave with a fist full of money and the plans to purchase drum and bass equipment…

As if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared. (No, this is not Brian and Dave in the shop!) Varley was watching his favourite video, the complete works of Mr. Ben. The all time greatest episode was when Mr. Ben went to his special shop and tried on an evening suit, Mr. Ben then walked through the secret door in the changing room, and out onto the stage at the Royal Albert Hall! He played a Steinway grand piano in front of a packed house.

“Ding Dong.” Varley was suddenly whisked away from his fantasy world, who could it be? He turned off the TV and answered the door. Brian and Dave stood before him.

Brian beamed, “We’ve just bought a drum kit and a bass rig! Get your keys out we’ll bring the stuff in and have a jam!”

And so in less than half an hour the 3 pals were making beautiful music together, a real tight jazzy blues thing was happening!

Across the street Danny sat in the bus stop (with a 2 litre bottle of cider). He heard the fantastic vibes and crossed the street to check out what was happening. He peered through the window and was totally blown away, he wanted to knock the door but was too nervous, he just had to sing with these guys! He began to sing outside the window, without even realising it was happening, his voice was perfect.

A passing dog stopped by Danny’s feet it looked up at him and sort of smiled, then a cat ambled out of the bushes and sat next to the dog, the dog winked at the cat. Shortly a mouse poked its little grey nose out of the hanging basket, and a frog croaked and watched from a large window box. Then a deer, a fox and a badger crossed the street from a large wooded garden an sat the other side of Danny, the cat and dog smiled at them, finally a large barn owl settled an Danny’s shoulder and hooted.

Brian looked up and saw Danny stood at the window, “There’s a bleedin’ sing zoo keeper outside, let him in Varley!

And then there were 4…!

Chapter IV

Brian loved his saxophone, it gave him pleasure every day. (Let’s face it folks… living in Southampton, you need something to make you smile!)
In the summer at weekends he would go down to the coast at Mudeford and busk.  It was great to stand there in his red Speedo’s with his horn there for everyone to appreciate. The money was good and so was the fun, sometimes he would hide behind the beach huts while people sat picnicking out the front. He would catapult a glob of ice cream high into the air above the beach huts, then quickly put his sax to his mouth and mimic the sound of seagulls… five points for a near miss ten points for a direct hit!

One such occasion Brian had just scored a perfect ten, as a sticky splat of vanilla landed on an old lady’s nose, as she looked skywards at the crying gull overhead. Brian laughed under his breath, but he heard more laughter, a squeaky small laugh but could not see anyone, he looked all around, but saw no one.

“Who’s there?”

“My name’s Chris, but people call me Trumpet Boy!”

Brian looked again but still could see nothing.

“Hey! Down here!”

Brian looked down, and then to his utter amazement, stood on a box of matches with a small trumpet in his hand was Chris, AKA Trumpet Boy!
He began to play, and what a player, the fact that he stood only one inch high did not matter! Brian bent down and picked him up by his shirt collar using his thumb and forefinger, and then he popped him into the matchbox.

“Your coming home with me Trumpet boy, were gonna be a brass section, and were gonna be in the best band in the world!”
